Apps from the Play Store and Amazon Appstore update automatically in the background. Live NetTV is installed directly from an APK file, so it does not. An out-of-date version is one of the most common reasons channels stop loading, so it is worth checking now and then. The good news is that updating takes two minutes and keeps all your settings.
Check which version you have
Open the app's side menu, where the version number is shown. You can also find it in your device settings:
- Fire TV: Settings › Applications › Manage Installed Applications › Live NetTV.
- Android TV / Google TV: Settings › Apps › See all apps › Live NetTV.
- Android phone: Settings › Apps › Live NetTV, then scroll to the bottom.
Compare it with the current versions:
| Build | Current version | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV & Firestick | 1.8.3 | Install on Fire TV |
| Android TV & Google TV | 5.0.5 | Install on Android TV |
| Android phone & tablet | 5.0.1 | Install on Android |
How updating works
Updating Live NetTV means installing the new APK over the existing app. Android recognises it as the same app, replaces the program files and leaves your data alone. You do not need to uninstall first. Uninstalling actually makes things worse, because it deletes your favourites and settings.
The one exception is when you are switching between builds, for example from the phone build to the TV build on an Android TV box. Builds are signed separately, so you will need to uninstall the old one first.
Update on Fire TV and Firestick
- Open the Downloader app you used for the original install.
- Enter the download address from our Fire TV install guide and press Go.
- When the download finishes, choose Install. Fire TV will show it as an update to an existing app.
- Choose Done, then Delete to remove the APK and free the space.
Update on Android TV and Google TV
- Open the app you used to download the original APK, such as Downloader or a browser.
- Download the latest build from our Android TV install guide.
- Open the file and choose Update.
- Delete the APK file afterwards to save space.
Update on an Android phone or tablet
- Download the latest APK from our Android install guide.
- Tap the download notification, or open the file from your Downloads folder.
- Tap Update. If Play Protect shows a warning, see our Play Protect guide.
If the update fails
“App not installed”
This usually means the new APK was signed differently from the version you have, which happens if you originally installed a copy from another website. Uninstall the current app and install the official build fresh. Copies from other websites are a security risk anyway. See how to spot a fake APK.
“There was a problem parsing the package”
The download was incomplete. Delete the file and download it again over a stable connection.
Not enough storage
An update briefly needs space for both the APK and the installed app. Clear some room first. Our storage guide shows how on Fire TV, and the same ideas apply to other devices.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose my favourites when I update?
No. Installing over the existing app keeps all its data. You only lose settings if you uninstall first or clear the app's data.
Does the app tell me when an update is available?
The app can notify you about new versions, but notifications are easy to miss. Checking this page or the version numbers on our install guides is the most reliable way to know.
Can I go back to an older version?
Android will not install an older version over a newer one. Uninstall first, then install the older APK. We only distribute current builds, because older ones often stop working.
