How the cost is calculated
The calculator divides your bundle price by its size to get a price per gigabyte, then multiplies by how much data your viewing uses. Typical data use per hour of live TV is about 0.7 GB in SD, 1.5 GB in HD and 3 GB in Full HD. Real streams vary, so treat the result as a good estimate.
For example, a bundle of 20 GB for 10 costs 0.50 per GB. One hour of HD then costs about 0.75, and an hour a day for 20 days about 15 a month.
Ways to cut the cost
- Choose a lower quality on your phone. HD uses half the data of Full HD and looks almost the same on a small screen.
- Use Wi-Fi where you can. Home broadband is usually unlimited, and public Wi-Fi is free, though use a trusted network.
- Check for streaming or night-time bundles. Some mobile networks offer cheaper data for video or at off-peak hours.
- Stop streams you are not watching. A live channel left playing keeps using data.
