HDMI-CEC Name Finder

HDMI-CEC lets your Fire TV or Android TV remote turn the TV on, switch inputs and control the volume. Every brand calls it something different. Pick your TV brand to see its name and where to switch it on.

What HDMI-CEC does

HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) lets devices connected by HDMI control each other. With it switched on, your Fire TV or Android TV remote can turn the TV and soundbar on and off, switch the TV to the right input, and change the volume. It also carries the audio link to a soundbar over HDMI ARC.

Turn it on at both ends

  • On the TV: switch on the setting with the brand name above.
  • On a Fire TV Stick: Settings › Display & Sounds › HDMI CEC Device Control.
  • On a soundbar: look for HDMI Control or CEC in its settings or app.

Problems after turning it on? Toggling HDMI-CEC off and on again fixes many black screens and missing sound: see Firestick black screen and Firestick no sound. If the remote does nothing at all, see Fire TV remote not working.
